This is actually a Ulysses Swallowtail (Papilio ulysses) from Australia. Photographers sometimes express frustration about both this species and the MOrphos. They always seem to land with their wings closed, hiding the beautiful bright blue upper surfaces. You see that nicely when they are flying- but that's unhelpful for photography.

I totally agree with you ...

I was able to take a few shots of Blue Morpho with it's wing open ... after patiently waiting for it for a very long time. .and after at least 4 visits to the museum ...

We have a brand new Ulysses that I spoted this morning...beautiful! Probably the most brilliant coloration that I've observed in the species so far.
